Route one: the Fragment auction

Fragment is Telegram own marketplace, running on the TON blockchain since 27 October 2022. You list the collectible, an auction runs, and the highest bid wins. Settlement is in Toncoin.

The costs are published and predictable: Fragment takes 5% of the sale price. Converting a basic username into a collectible in the first place costs a separate one time fee of 5 TON.

An auction works well when the handle has obvious broad demand, a real word or a short string that plenty of people will recognise. Competitive bidding does the price discovery for you.

Route two: a private sale

Auctions are poor at finding the one buyer who cares far more than everybody else. A handle that matches a company name, a project or a specific brand is often worth several times more to that single buyer than it will ever fetch against general bidders.

A private sale also keeps the transaction off a public record, which matters if you would rather not advertise that you held the asset or what you got for it.

Before you sell either way

If your handle is still a basic username set in the app, it is not yet a tradeable asset. It has to exist as a collectible on Fragment before ownership can move cleanly, and that step is worth getting right before you talk to any buyer.

You will also need a TON wallet you control. On a brokered sale we work out the structure with you, so the asset and the payment are not left depending on whoever moves first.
